Throwback Thursday - Mountain Climbing Edition
In 2006, my whole family came with me on a trip to Colorado, so we hiked (2 miles up) to Arthur’s Rock. In 2012, I went back, just me, and I made it all the way to the top (it took 4 hours with all the kids, and 1 hour just by myself). :)
The view from the top was fantastic both times!
The shot of the whole family on the trail was one of my favorites, and when I went back years later, I stopped on the same trail and got a pic. Same angle, etc.
I really like being out in nature. I feel a kindred connection with the Earth and it feels good.
I have met several people in recent years who go by initials. I have a hard time with names, and an even harder time with initials!
I can never remember, and I frequently ask (slightly embarrassed) what the initials are, again? (apologies all over my face and body)
One guy, an assistant mechanic at an auto repair shop, was JD. I remember thinking to myself “Scott, come on, you can remember this, it’s basically Jack Daniels!”
So, I remember good ole JD. That one I’ve got.
The problem is, everybody else I meet who has initials (I have NO IDEA! Maybe it’s a Texas thing? I meet people with initials! What can I say?) automatically becomes JD.
So, now, everyone I meet (with initials) (RC, RJ, JD, Etc.), is “JD.”
Because, Jack Daniels.
So, if you tell me your name, the chances are pretty high that I will ask you again, but if you tell me your initials, I’ll know, with out ANY doubt, that you are JD.
That is all.
Good talk.
I totally loved them too (back with “September,” especially) and they SURE DID become dicks!
All that damned “evil agenda” stuff.
Why did they have to pick on US? Couldn’t they pick on some other pathetic strain of history? Sheesh!
But, that story did great things to my mind. It sent me places. I love it so much.

To Christy: Thank you! I hadn’t even thought about Looper, but similar idea. I think I was influenced by Fringe, too (the observers).
I have to manually reply, like the pilgrims… (I have totally disabled Missing E, and re-enabled it, and disabled it again. No difference.)

To Brent and DeeDee: Thanks. I asked because sometimes I’ll get a crazy thought (I know, ME?), and some of those that I share with my kids, they will say “that sounds kind of like an anime I saw once.”
So, I’ve read a lot of Sci Fi in my past, but I don’t really watch anime.
But, maybe I write it? All I have to do is change the name from Sasha to Konichiwa-san, or something like that.
Anyway, thanks for the comments! And thanks for humoring an old man with half-formed thoughts.
Part I
Sasha accepted the fourth dimensional sight at the bold age of 14, after years of training, and discipline (not unlike earning a black belt in a martial art. You open your body to knew ways of moving, liberating you in ways you never imagined, while at the same time opening your mind to new levels of discipline and tenacity.) He was prepared. It took effect instantly, with the first inhale of the nano cloud. He was delighted.
“Everything just became 3D! I mean, I can SEE everything in 3D. Like, expanded out. Translucent. Like, the wall is kind of see-through. I can see the changes in density, the changes in moisture (I guess different materials have different capacities for holding things, like moisture?), temperature, and other little things that maybe I’ll learn about. Who knows? It’s COOL, is all I know. I can look at a solid object and really “know” it. And that is one ANGRY looking desk! Sheesh!”
Sasha knew that seeing “normal objects” positioned at angles he never knew existed, and seeing inside of solid objects was a small part of this new ability. He knew that seeing into people’s intentions and true emotions was a part of this new “gift”, and was prepared to harbor nary a secret of his own. He fully expected to live his life as an open book, among others just like himself at the academy.
Part II
When Sasha turned 31, he had mastered 5th dimensional travel. He’d been doing it since he was 27, and had become something of a hotshot. He could imagine any alternate time or set of conditions, and be there. Like teleporting anywhere, any-when. He knew there were allies from several of his possible futures, as well as a few nightmares. Just as there were monsters and heroes in his native past. His goal was to seek out others in the multiverse who believed as he did. There were some, who didn’t have technology, or knowledge of physics, or time travel, or higher dimensions of reality. But they still thought like him. He had kindred spirits ALL OVER. It was a joy to meet them.
Part III
I am getting tired. Maybe I’ll write more tomorrow. Maybe I won’t. But, the question I now pose to you all (who had the demented patience to actually read that) is this: Is this a western, an anime, a drama, or any other genre? What did you imagine while reading it?
jalapenos. olives. brisket. carrots. beer. (the perfect lunch)
(I had copied that, and just needed to paste it somewhere. This is where. You are welcome. Also, my mouth is on fire right now).
The passing of time enables me to say “I learned these skills as an adult, AND I have 14 years of experience. Ladies?
And Gentlemen? I’m talking about my current job. Of course.
I am in training.
Nobody knows what that means. I know. So here is what I do:
I design and develop training for technical support peeps. So their jobs become easier. And the customer’s experience is improved. So, I basically help make everybody’s life better.
ALSO, I smiled at a stranger today.
I do what I can.
